Prozac 20mg is an antidepressant. Also known by its generic name, fluoxetine, Prozac 20 mg is a selective serotonin re uptake inhibitor. It is also used together with olanzapine to treat depression that is part of bipolar disorder.

Uses of Prozac 20mg
Prozac 20 mg is used to treat depression, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder, a certain eating disorder (bulimia), and a severe form of premenstrual syndrome (premenstrual dysphoric disorder).

Prozac 20 mg may improve your mood, sleep, appetite, and energy level and may help restore your interest in daily living. It may decrease fear, anxiety, unwanted thoughts, and the number of panic attacks. It may also reduce the urge to perform repeated tasks (compulsions such as hand-washing, counting, and checking) that interfere with daily living. This drug may lessen premenstrual symptoms such as irritability, increased appetite, and depression. It may decrease binging and purging behaviors in bulimia.

How to Use 
Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once daily in the morning. If you are taking this medication twice a day, your doctor may direct you to take it in the morning and at noon.

If you are taking Prozac 20 mg for premenstrual problems, your doctor may direct you to take it every day of the month or just for the 2 weeks before your period through the first full day of your period.

How Prozac 20 mg works
It works by blocking the absorption of the neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain. Regulating the amount of serotonin helps brain cells transmit messages to each other. This results in a better and more stable mood.

Dosage
Prozac comes in several forms and strengths. Prozac capsules are available in strengths of 10 milligram (mg), 20 mg, and 40 mg, and tablets are available in 10 mg, 20 mg, 40 mg, and 60 mg.

Prozac 20 mg generic capsules are available in 10 mg and 20 mg.

Side effects
The most common side effects of Prozac are:
Abnormal dreams
Abnormal ejaculation
Lack or loss of appetite
Anxiety
Lack or loss of strength
Diarrhea
Dry mouth
Upset stomach
Flu-like symptoms
Inability to get or maintain an erection
Trouble sleeping
Decreased sex drive
Nausea
Nervousness
Sore throat
Rash
Swelling of the sinuses
Drowsiness
Sweating
Tremors
Skin flushing
Yawning

Seek emergency medical treatment right away if, after taking Prozac 20 mg, you experience any of the following symptoms that may indicate anaphylaxis, a severe allergic reaction:

Difficulty breathing
Swelling of your tongue, throat, mouth, face, or eyes
Red itchy welts (hives)
Skin rash with or without fever and joint pain

Withdrawal
Withdrawal symptoms includes:
Mood changes.
Irritability/agitation.
Anxiety.
Confusion.
Dizziness.
Numbness/tingling in the hands or feet.
Sweating.
Headache.
