Description of Opana 40mg

Opana 40mg is an extended-release oral formulation of oxymorphone indicated for the management of moderate to severe pain when a continuous, around-the-clock opioid analgesic is needed for an extended period of time. The tablet strength describes the amount of oxymorphone hydrochloride per tablet. The tablets contain the following inactive ingredients: hypromellose, methylparaben, silicified microcrystalline cellulose, sodium stearyl fumarat.

Indication and Usage of Opana 40mg
OPANA ER is indicated for the relief of moderate to severe pain in patients requiring continuous, around-the-clock opioid treatment for an extended period of time.

Limitations of Usage this medication is not intended for use as an as needed analgesic. Opana ER is not indicated for pain in the immediate post-operative period if the pain is mild, or not expected to persist for an extended period of time.

This medication is only indicated for post-operative use if the patient is already receiving the drug prior to surgery or if the post-operative pain is expected to be moderate or severe and persist for an extended period of time. It can also be use in pain due to: fibromyalgia, pain in lower back, back pain and breakthrough pain.

How to use Opana 40mg
Take this medication on a regular schedule as directed by your doctor, not as needed for sudden pain. Opana  is taken orally without food (at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after eating) as directed by your doctor, usually every 12 hours. Swallow the tablets whole. Do not break, chew, dissolve, or crush them. Do not pre-soak, lick, or wet the tablets before putting them in your mouth. Opana 40mg

Take one tablet at a time with enough water to completely swallow the tablet. If you have nausea, ask your doctor or pharmacist about ways to decrease nausea (such as lying down for 1 to 2 hours with as little head movement as possible). The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.  Opana 40mg

Do not increase your dose or use this drug more often or for longer than prescribed because your risk of side effects may increase. Properly stop the medication when so directed.Before you start using this medication, ask your doctor or pharmacist if you should stop or change how you use your other opioid medication. Opana 40mg

Drug interactions
Opana 40mg and Roxicodone share similar drug interactions. Always tell your doctor about all prescription and over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and herbs you take before you start treatment with a new medication. Opana 40mg

If you take either Opana 40mg or Roxicodone with certain other drugs, you may have increased side effects because certain side effects are similar between the drugs. These side effects can include breathing problems, low blood pressure, extreme tiredness, or coma. These interacting medications include:

Other pain medications
phenothiazines (drugs used to treat serious mental disorders)
monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)
tranquilizers
sleeping pills

Sleepiness
Constipation
Nausea
Chronic constipation
fatigue
Itching
Flushing
Fast heartbeat
Red eyes
Headache
Feeling anxious or confused

Decreased appetite.

Orthostatic hypotension (feeling dizzy when you stand up from sitting or lying down due to a drop in your blood pressure).

Withdrawal of Opana 40mg
Withdrawal takes place within 14-18 hours after the last dose; the drug exits the bloodstream, signaling the end of the narcotic effects and the beginning of the body’s struggle to cope in the absence of Opana 40mg. Typical withdrawal symptoms include:
Agitation
Chills
Uncontrollable tearing up and runny nose
Muscle and joint pain
Pupil dilation

Abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea
Insomnia
Fatigue
